Dog Flea Treatment Is The Answer

Submitted by: Daisy Profits

Fleas are a problem for anyone living in a home with a dog. These little insects can live on your dog’s body constantly laying their eggs. The fleas cause the poor dog to constantly itch and if he’s allergic to fleas, he can experience loss of fur, continual itching to distraction, driving you and him crazy, and can result in inflammation and infection. Regardless of whether the dog has an allergy to flea saliva or not, the fleas must be dealt with or they will go on and on and the fleas will also override your home, other pets, and may even start jumping on humans. In short; a flea infestation will drive you and your dog completely crazy if not taken care of quickly and efficiently.

Dog Flea Treatment

If you think your dog has fleas due to his constant scratching and maybe seeing things moving on him, there are ways to find out for sure. Fleas are very small (about an eighth of an inch long), but visible to the naked eye, and brownish in color. Fleas can be found under the dog’s fur, collar and belly. Their waste material can also be seen on the dog’s coat and looks like multiple black flecks or specks almost like pepper. If fleas or their droppings are found then it is time for dog flea treatment for your dog to get rid of these parasites, and the quicker the better.

Treating Your Dog for Fleas

Flea collars, flea powders and flea sprays are great for preventing a flea infestation to some extent, however they will not help if your dog already has fleas. When fleas are on your dog,the female flea lays eggs at a rate of about thirty per day. 30 per day per flea! That’s a lot of fleas for one dog. These eggs will then fall off the dog and get into the carpet, soil, bedding and whatever areas the dog may go. The fleas then hatch and your flea problem escalates into a full blown flea infestation which can reinfest on your dog. To stop this cycle from rehappening and rehappening again and again, you must kill all the fleas on the dog, his bedding, the carpet and in any areas he wanders into.

There are several dog flea treatment choices, powders, sprays or liquids but the best one is an oral medication. This does not kill the adult fleas but does kill eggs and larva in mere hours. This stops the flea’s life cycle and stops them from reinfecting your dog and gives you piece of mind. The main source of the fleas also must be cleaned, including the carpet, the dog’s bedding and any area your dog “hangs out”, plus other dog friends he may have.

Fleas can be a real nuisance for dogs and their owners, but catching them and treating the dog quickly will prevent them from returning and will end the problem and give you back your home. Dog flea treatment is the solution.
